Lost Finale Gives Fans Much to Chew On

by Maren Yeska

The Lost season finale was one of the best of primetime this year. In trademark LOST fashion, it answered some questions while posing many more. It had excitement, romance, humor, creepiness and intrigue. It gave us plenty of clues to decipher, freeze-frames to examine and plot elements to analyze and debate. And really, aren't those the things we really love about LOST?

At the season's outset, fans complained about the long delay before the premiere. Once shows began airing, there were complaints that Lost had "lost it", that episodes weren't answering questions and weren't impactful or exciting enough. True, viewership was down from Lost's hey-day, but now, as we look at the 06/07 season as a whole, we see that this exodus of viewers is happening across ALL shows - even the hits. (There's just too many choices out there and so many hours in a TV fans' day - even a rabid one like me.)

Lost: Off to See the Wizard

by Maren Yeska

Ben was at the center of this week's swirling episode that gave us some big answers. Of course, we also end up with more questions and find ourselves being pulled further down into the rabbit hole that is LOST.

This day is Ben's birthday, and the episode opens to Ben flashing back on his own birth. (Could someone please tell me how Ben accomplishes that??) We learn that Ben was born two months prematurely while his mom and dad were hiking outside Portland, OR. A hippy couple happens by right after Dad delivers Ben and carries a dying mom and Ben out of the woods, and help get the family to a hospital.

Lost: Tell Us Already!

by Maren Yeska

I haven't trusted Jack at all since the moment we saw him casually playing football with The Others, and this feeling has only intensified the more he's been cozying up to Juliet. This week, Kate joined the ranks of the Jack doubters and it looks like our camp of Losties may be splitting into two factions.

LOST: A Penny in your Thoughts

by Maren Yeska

Desmond flashs us back and forward in this episode that really starts the wheels in motion for the upcoming final four of the season.

Desmond's vision of the future centers around a hike into the woods taken by Des, Hurley, Jin and Charlie. As they proceed, Hurley and Charlie talk about "The Flash" and Superman until Charlie steps on a trip wire. It sends an arrow right into Charlie's throat and Charlie dies. While this commotion is going on, Desmond spies a flashing red light in the sky.

Blonde Ambition on LOST

by Maren Yeska

I never had one second of doubt last week. I knew that Juliet hadn't been "left behind". She SEEMS sweet and caring, and it makes you want to give her the benefit of the doubt, or even to go so far as trusting her.. but I learned early.. NEVER TRUST those sweet lookin' blondes that pretend to be your friend. (Don't ask.)

All I could say was HOORAY!!! ....then @#$%&*!!!!!!

by Maren Yeska

I am sure I joined most LOST fans in a nationwide ecstatic dance of joy with the demise of both Nikki and Paolo in the first 10 minutes of this week's episode. These two "Who the hell are you?" characters that suddenly arrived on the island this season after having never appeared on the island during any of the first two seasons have been widely unaccepted (is universally hated too strong?) by fans.

Locke's Order: Toasted Sub, C4 on the side

by Maren Yeska

Locke has definitely been someone to keep an eye on from day one. There's always been something strange about him, something that made you say, "Hmmmmm....." I've wondered why he no longer needed the wheelchair he boarded the plane in. I've wondered why he was so transfixed by all things Dharma. I've wondered why he seems to think he has some kind of communion with this island and why he would just stare out into space on the beach sometimes. He's been at odds with Jack, Sayid, and Ben/Henry.. but he's always helpful to the ladies. So, WHAT IS UP WITH LOCKE?

An OTHER side of Locke

by Maren Yeska

I called it out last week, and now... I'm not the only one suspicious of Locke. After Locke "accidently" blew up eye-patch guy's communication station, Locke, Sayid and Kate bring him along as a hostage and guide to help them find Others-ville and Jack. On the way, Mikhail (E-P guy), tells the group the Others were brought to the island by a "magnificent man." (NOT BEN.) and BOY, oh Boy, there goes Locke... all intrigued and entranced again at the mere mention of the Dharma cult.

Keep Locke away from COMPUTERS!

by Maren Yeska

One thing we definitely learned from this week's LOST is that Locke is far too entranced with computers and with all things Dharma. He also is just curious enough to push what shouldn't be pushed.. and is apparently quite good at chess. OR.... there's another possibility - one I've tossed around in my head almost since Lost's beginning.

I think it's quite possible that Locke is a Dharma Initiative member himself.

Lost: Come on and Take a Free Ride!

by Maren Yeska

Lost: And The Three Questions Answered ... Were????

by Maren Yeska

I have absolutely NO idea. Don't get me wrong, I DID like this episode of Lost. But I did NOT like the ABC promos that promised us "Three Big Questions Answered" that definitely were not. I have been watching this show since Day One and reading everything I can get my hands on about it, and for the life of me, and all the other fans I've talked to, I can not figure out what three things we allegedly learned.

Desmond and Penny: A LOST Valentine's story

by Maren Yeska

I've watched this episode over again, I've taken notes and read other people's notes, and I'm still not sure I've totally got this episode right.

Charlie and Hurley are determined to figure out why Desmond seems to be able to see the future. He knew Locke was going to give a speech, he knew the lightening was going to hit Claire's tent. As they are raiding Sawyer's stash, (there will be hell to pay when Sawyer gets back!), they find a 60 yr. old bottle of Scotch (nice) and decide to loosen up Desmond with drink and get to the bottom of this.

Still LOST... and interesting again

by Maren Yeska

Lost returned this Weds after a nearly three month absence. Everyone I know, from devoted Lost fans, to Lost fans who have "lost their way" in these past Lost-absent months, to followers of TV in general, all had one thought... "This episode better come out of the blocks good!"

It did NOT disappoint. We got some action, some romance, an intriguing back-story, more fuel for the "numbers" discussion, a new character, and a couple of "answers" (or at least, quasi-answers) that lead to MORE questions. A quick recap.

Exclusive! Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse on the Challenges of Writing Lost

by Ed Martin

MediaVillage: With all the ongoing flashback stories, do you ever feel as if you're writing 25 shows at once?

Damon Lindelof: Absolutely. Two weeks ago we were breaking a Locke story. His flashback stories have a very distinctive feel to them. And then after that we did a concept episode with Nikki and Paulo, which is not unlike The Other 48 Days. [Days was an episode in season two that efficiently recapped the experiences of the previously unseen crash victims from the tail section of the plane during the seven weeks they had been on the island as of that time.]

Lost: Where for art thou Juliet?

by Jonathan Gabay

After a 3 month hiatus Lost returned to us last night. Did anyone really miss the show? Forget missing the show, did anyone even remember that Lost still existed? Apparently 2.4 million people forgot as the ratings show a dip from the previous episode. Blame it on the new timeslot, but if Lost gets beat by CSI: NY, you know your show is in trouble.
