By Jamie Czarnezki

Eight months before their wedding, Marshall and Lily decided that they wanted a small, intimate outside wedding, with an acoustic guitar player. Slowly but surely that idea disappeared. Marshall's father didn't want the wedding outside in New York (he thought he'd get mugged), Lily's mother invited too many people and the guitar turned into a harp. Still, the couple is happy to get married at the historic Van Smoot House in Upstate New York, which they once chased another couple down for.

Lily says she no longer cares about having the perfect wedding. She knows that things will go wrong. Of course, Lily's high school boyfriend shows up determined to object to her marriage. The flowers are late. Marshall's friend tackles the photographer and the harp player may give birth during the ceremony. But when Lily's veil is trashed and Robin can't find Lily's wedding underwear, the women clearly need a smoke.
The men are having trouble of their own, except for Barney, of course, who is getting anything he wants in the name of the bride. Lily's cousin is scheduled to cut Marshall's hair, but instead she gives his hair blonde Backstreet Boy streaks. Marshall is so upset that he shaves his head. Desperate to do something to help his friend, Ted goes looking for a hair piece and actually gets one. However, it looks awful. So, the men head outside for air and they inevitably meet up with the women.
After discussing their disasters, the couple has the outside wedding they originally wanted. Lily borrows a hat from the gardener, Barney performs the ceremony and there is even acoustic guitar music. This wedding among friends drives tough Robin to tears, which she wipes away with Lily's wedding underwear pulled from her purse. After the ceremony, the five go to the next wedding without a care in the world because the real wedding has already taken place.
Last week's episode provided a glimpse of the wedding reception to follow. Marshall wore a hat during the toast. I guessed the hat was just Marshall's style until this episode. The big question this week is more intimate. Where will Marshall and Lily have sex? We know it isn't it the bathroom because Ted is in there, but we are left to wonder for one more week about the location and the other remaining details of this somewhat unpredictable wedding day. Also next week, Barney learns that Robin and Ted have a secret, and he's determined to find out what it is. Did anyone else notice that Robin and Ted didn't hug after the wedding? In fact, they barely spoke at all. Is a breakup on the way?

I've already made it clear that I believe How I Met Your Mother is the best scripted comedy on TV. (I added scripted because NBC's new show Thank God You're Here is really funny.)

Thus it surprises me (or maybe it shouldn't considering how silly the networks have been lately) that How I Met Your Mother has not yet been picked up for another season. The executives must be nutty that it has taken them more than two seconds to make this very, very, very simple decision.

By Jamie Czarnezki

Lily and Marshall's wedding is fast approaching. The couple is even feeling each other's pain, which is very annoying to their friends. This co-dependency forces Lily and Marshall to return to their plan of sleeping apart the two weeks prior to their wedding. Lily goes to Robin's bringing with her a tape of Marshall singing her night-night song. During her stay with Robin, Lily discovers that her dress is too big and she doesn't have the money to get it altered. So, Robin puts Lily on a hardcore eating regime.

While Lily is eating her way back into her dress, Ted is writing and rewriting his wedding toast. Marshall feels that Ted's first two versions talking about sex, drugs, and revealing secrets are too inappropriate. However, when Ted writes a clean version, Marshall says that it is boring. Ted, of course, does eventually give a great toast. We actually get to see him give it at the wedding reception. Consequently, we know Lily and Marshall get married. We also learn that Lily and Marshall never slept apart. They snuck out to a hotel room for those two weeks. It was a good thing, too, because the room service is how Lily gains all her weight.
Barney also achieves his own goal. He's practiced his whole life to win on the game show, The Price Is Right. He makes it all the way to the showcase showdown trying to impress his father, who his mother had always claimed was Bob Barker. Barney plans on telling Bob that he is his son after he wins, but even after winning the showcase, Barney doesn't say a word. In this moment, Barney is brimming with emotion. He seems to know that Bob Barker isn't really his father, but he can't bring himself to break his own heart by hearing Bob say that he is not. What a great moment!
There was also an unexplained moment in the show. We never find out why Robin and Ted were covered in red sauce early in this episode. I doubt that this will ever be explained, but I'm sure that in the coming weeks, there will be other mysteries and cliffhangers as we get to see more of Lily and Marshall's long-anticipated wedding.

Three things are known. 1) When things are really bad, Barney cannot be found. 2) When things are good, you can't get rid of him. 3) Marshall's bachelor party is coming. It is not difficult to imagine the kind of party that Barney would want to throw for Marshall. He desires strippers which are not what Marshall wants. Barney, however, will not give up on imposing his will. He even brings porn to watch in the car on the way to Atlantic City.

It is the day that Ted is supposed to move in with Robin. Ted's belongings are packed and a moving truck is out front. Barney even offers to rent Ted's room. He wants the room because it takes 23 minutes to get from the bar to his apartment. As Barney explains, a lot can happen to a woman in 23 minutes, including falling asleep and reuniting with her old boyfriend. Naturally, Marshall and Lily refuse Barney's request. They don't want to wake up strange women that Barney has left behind.

The best part about the show How I Met Your Mother is that we get to learn about its characters' pasts and how they came to be who they are. This episode, Marshall and Ted are in Marshall's beloved car waiting for the odometer to hit two hundred thousand when they hit a pot hole and the car dies. While they are waiting at the repair shop, Barney, Robin and Lily bring their origami party to them. Barney pretends that he can't fold a paper crane so he doesn't have to complete the task. This is far from the moral of the story.

Robin and Ted have reached that point in there relationship where they are, in Ted's words, trying to pretend that they haven't been in a lot of other relationships. Yet, Ted keeps mentioning places he's been with other women and covering it up by saying it was actually with his sister. Consequently, the pair decides to be honest with each other. However, when Ted gives Robin an old girlfriend's lotion to use, she has had it. She asks Ted to get rid of everything he has from old girlfriends. Ted does not want to give up these things. The pair agrees to let Marshall, Lily and Barney decide what should be done. Only Marshall votes with Ted. Ted must get rid of it all. He empties the apartment so much that Robin thinks they were robbed, but when she finds out what really happened, she is very happy.

In true How I Met Your Mother fashion, this week's show started at the end of the story and worked its way back. Now that Ted is the youngest project manager at his firm, other companies have been seeking him out. One company even wants Ted to run their New York office, but their headquarters are in Chicago. So, Ted has to fly to Chicago to interview for his dream job. Unfortunately, Ted and Robin miss the flight. Of course, it is not their fault. Ted traces the blame to Robin who is taking the trip with him. Robin is quick to correct Ted. Robin's trail of blame ends at Lily.

It seems that all the holidays get celebrated on How I Met Your Mother, including Ted's favorite holiday, Super Bowl Sunday. Ted has the whole day planned according to tradition until the gang finds out that Mark died. Mark apparently worked at the bar and his funeral is scheduled for Super Bowl Sunday, which seems pretty unbelievable. Since no one really knows who Mark is, they think that they can skip the funeral. However, they soon realize that they have to attend when Carl, the bartender, threatens another patron, who plans on watching the football game.

As regular viewers of How I Met Your Mother all know, Ted told Robin he loved her on their first date. Robin, however, has never said that to any man. It seems she wants to say it to Ted, but she just can't. One of the best lines of the show? When Robin has "I love you" on the tip of her tongue, and instead the word "falafel" comes out. Robin has even bigger fish to fry when her sister, Katie, comes to town and wants to lose her virginity to her boyfriend of two months, Kyle.
