Dexter: The Bay Harbor Butcher Has Girl Problems Too?

By Andrew Sousa

Thank God Dexter Season 2 is underway. Our loveable Hawaiian shirt-clad serial killer is back, and I'll be the first to say I missed him. With the way Season 1 ended, (Recap: Ice Truck Killer is Dexter's brother/Deborah's fiancé and Dexter was forced to kill him) I could not wait to see what was next for Dexter. Luckily the powers that be did not disappoint, and after only three episodes in, poor Dex has already been through a lot. Just in case you missed it, let me catch you up:

This season starts off with Dexter being unable to kill. Between Sergeant Doakes' constant tail and Dexter trying to keep up appearances, our dark avenger just cannot seem to find time to make his move. And when he does finally attempt to serve his brand of justice, things are a little rusty. Dexter just ain't what he used to be.

Interview with David Zayas (Angel Batista) of Dexter

by Jacki Garfinkel

If you read "Darkly Dreaming Dexter," you know that the character of Angel Batista only has a minor role. Yet the writers for the Showtime show Dexter, as well as David Zayas, the actor who plays him, have done an outstanding job bringing Batista to life.

Interview with Julie Benz (Rita Bennett) of Dexter

by Jacki Garfinkel

You might not know it from her character as Rita Bennett on Showtime's hit new show Dexter, but Julie Benz is absolutely hilarious and has an extremely contagious laugh.

Benz has done an exceptional job playing Rita, Dexter's girlfriend. If you saw the scene in which Rita confronts her ex in jail (a scene that was difficult for Benz, as she said it was tough to be strong and to find that strength within Rita), you know exactly what I'm talking about. She was remarkable. Benz has been so extraordinary in the role, you'd never notice how nervous she was to star opposite Michael C. Hall.

Spoilers and Theories

by Jacki Garfinkel

Three episodes left. Then we have to wait until late 2007 to see more Dexter. My solution? In the off time, pick up Jeff Lindsay's "Dexter" books.

Seriously, if you haven't read the first book yet, "Darkly Dreaming Dexter," you really need to get started on that. I look at the book and the show as partners in crime. Yes there are differences, but there are enough similarities that while the two, on their own, are spectacular, when woven together they form a masterpiece.

Author Jeff Lindsay Talks About His Beloved Serial Killer Dexter

by Jacki Garfinkel

We have found out who the Ice Truck Killer is. The mystery is over. Or is it?

Jeff Lindsay is Dexter's creator. Our beloved serial killer was originated by Lindsay in 2004 in his novel "Darkly Dreaming Dexter."

When I first read the book, I was convinced I had ruined Showtime's version of it. Oh, how wrong I was. After this past episode I actually think having read the book makes my viewing experience even better.

Your Thoughts and the Dexter Books

by Jacki Garfinkel

I made a mistake. I read Jeff Lindsay's book "Darkly Dreaming Dexter" in its entirety. I didn't mean to, I swear. I promised myself I would read no further than what Showtime's Dexter had revealed. I didn't want the book to give anything away. Well, that didn't happen.

Is Dexter the Ice Truck Killer?

by Jacki Garfinkel

"Because far beyond simply doing some interesting things with a new friend, I needed to find this killer. I had to see him, talk to him, prove to myself that he was real and that--
That what?
That he wasn't me?
That I was not the one doing such terrible, interesting things?
Why would I think that? It was beyond stupid; it was completely unworthy of the attention of my once-proud brain. Except - now that the idea was actually rattling around in there, I couldn't get the thought to sit down and behave. What if it really was me? What if I had somehow done these things without knowing it? Impossible of course, absolutely impossible, but --"

Your SoundOffs

by Jacki Garfinkel

We got so many SoundOffs in response to my Dexter columns, I thought I'd respond to each one now.

Blopndyloks SoundsOff:
I think the Ice Truck Killer could be the witness at the Angel of Mercy Hospital. The dork that Dexter's sister and the lieutenant were interrogating. He seemed sort of creepy and didn't come across as a looky-loo to me.

Dear Dexter, I Love You.

by Jacki Garfinkel

"Dear Dexter, I love you." That was my exact thought as episode four of Dexter came to a close Sunday night. (The "you" I am referring to is the show, not the character - I don't fall in love with serial killers, I promise.) The premise of the show is that Dexter works for the police department but is also a serial killer. This past episode did not feature one Dexter killing, and yet it was still pure perfection.

It's Time to Become a Dexter-aholic

by Jacki Garfinkel

Last week I wrote that Dexter is worth watching with your eyes closed. I still stand by that - even more so now that I've viewed three episodes of the genius show. In fact, I have become so obsessed with Dexter that I've made it my mission to convert everyone else into Dexter-aholics. It's worth it.

Dexter: TV is Now Worth Watching With Your Eyes Closed

by Jacki Garfinkel

Do you like gore and scenes that give you the heebie jeebies? Then you need to watch Showtime's newest show Dexter. Let me rephrase that. Even if you don't like gruesome things, Dexter is still worth watching even if your eyes are closed. Plain and simple, the show is incredibly creepy - I had my eyes shut most of the time from the violence. And yet, I'm beyond thoroughly intrigued.
